The Deadly Flood of Early 2013 in Jakarta

Over 94.624 people (Source: Tribunnews), and possibly the count will raise eventually in Jakarta take refuges around the flyovers and safer places and left their home to rot and be swept by the high stream of water.
Five found dead.

For the very reason I was writing one special post about this was because I am genuinely concerned about my country's capital city, Jakarta. The reason why I wrote it in English because I feel comfortable of doing so, and I will translate this post into Indonesian in other posts.

Jakarta. That is where I have lived for over 10 years, and to be purely honest, I love my city. Most of you who knows where I am, I supposed you could know what happened in Jakarta now. This post will be viewed based on my third-party view where I am trying hard to be neutral in this case. However it might not look like so, if you are offended, I deeply apologize for everything, but as a nationalist, I simply can't hold back on stating what I see.

Jakarta is flooding, and the causalities are pretty much worsen from years before.

In a big line, you could read about the article written by BBC staff here. (English)

I have just evacuated from Jakarta (where I live every Monday till Friday because my school is in Jakarta for this year), and my family and I were forcefully needed to go to the neighboring city, Tangerang since originally my house is there. For every ungrateful people over there, you need to know that the water level almost reached my neck and it would kill me if I can't swim or my family didn't rent any water boat to get us to a higher place.

So the first question is, how about the people out there who can't even swim, rather, who can't even save their own life?

A rather blatant answer was pretty obvious given from our logical thinking. It raised the causality count.

To put in a way, I really want to have a word about this especially to all Jakartans or Indonesians around who read my post-- you guys must realize the 'things' that had made Jakarta like this, you guys must 'act'. It's not enough to just know and didn't do anything that will make this city better. That means you guys were trying to act oblivious and tried to search for a scapegoat to put blames too. Apparently, most of those scapegoats are for the Government because of their sickening issues about spending a lot of APBN (National Budget) needlessly, such as trying to build a massive and high-technology building for themselves, while most Indonesians are starving to death (as I type this too). But the main point is, you guys are the citizens, you guys are the people, you guys can't just let everything to be burdened on the Government's shoulder. That is despicable. Why not do a couple of trivial things to make the city better even though it didn't actually amount much if to compare with what the Government's doing?

I have heard a lot of people have complaints about the lack of prevention from the Jakarta's Governor, Joko Widodo (Shortened as Jokowi) and his crew. I mean people, he has just started his reign for 94 days and nothing could simply be achieved in a simple amount of time. Let's just use our logic to figure this out. Jakarta's tendency of flooding has been a legend till now and you expect a mere human could prevent it from happening in just 94 days? Let's try to expect for 5 years onward, shall we? I will try to still stand in my standing point as a neutral poster, so I won't comment much how good Jokowi will handle the situation, but if you want prove, you could just see how he did for Jakarta in this article

This occurrence is not uncommon. Jakarta is really infamous for its habitual / periodic flood, thorough the country or even the international network. Why can't we make the capital be more recognized for its positive phenomenon than its negative ones? To put it rather blatantly, it's pretty obvious of why did that happen.

The second question is, what did the Indonesians do to Jakarta so it had made it less that a Jayakarta?

Every living people that I know here will litter their trash at least once a day in not a trashbin, but a sewer, river or even the streets. Why hello people, that is exactly why it made the rivers (Such as Kali Ciliwung, Kali Sekretaris, or other rivers and all) flood because the water was stranded by a huge amount of trash.

You people who always trash litters randomly can't just stand there and watch from your telly while you're happily-go-around to have everyone suffer because of your little issue of impracticality. I heard enough--no, more than enough complaints from the people in my environment about impracticality and wasting time more than we should. That is not true. It's right that you have to watch your time so you won't end up wasting any of it needlessly, but you are stingy in the wrong place. Are you a sloth or whatsoever creature that had no sense of giving hospitality and have a mind of the later issues you have when you throw away your trash to the river?

No. You are not.

You are humans, you know what to do. You have a mind greater than any living creature in this place, so why not act like it?

I had trained and discipline myself to NOT litter anything, even a plastic from a candy wrap to things like a plastic bag full of trash. I have always tried since I have known Geography from the 5th grade that littering trashes will make the river flood. Yes, I know it took time to make the habit grows as if it lives with us, but that's the reason why your act could help Jakarta at least for a bit. It needed time to work for me to keep my trash inside my pocket and then throw it out inside of the trashbin. It's not like I sacrifice a lot of things from that routine.

If I can do that, why can't you? I'm only 15, but I know where I should place my trust in.
For the horrid flood enough, the PLN (Indonesian: Perusahaan Listrik Negara / English: State Electricity Company) had cut off the electricity supply to the houses of everyone who stand still against the high stream of water to prevent other causalities. One of the example why history shouldn't be repeated is about a family of one father with his three children were dead because of electricity shorting. (Originally seen from Metro TV Breaking News)

Another point where Jakarta had grown worsen was because of its frequent newcomers from other regional areas (Such as Surabaya, Bandung, or even further places away like Papua, from Sulawesi, and other villages inside of the region), which made a small city like Jakarta had grown bigger and bigger while the places to stay had grown more expensive and expensive, and less less ground to put even a tent for a shelter. Even though this sound harsh, but it's what I saw from the reality, my friends--you might know that Jakarta is a place where you can have all of the worst to the best opportunities to test your luck out, but most of 'em are the worst. Living in Jakarta is not easy, you know? If you can compare it to the other cities, the cost of having food there had doubled, (Last time I know when I am eating at Bandung, I only need 10,000 IDR / Rupiah to fill up my stomach, you won't get enough food just for 10,000 in Jakarta), the cost of living was one of the major aspect as well. (Because most of the residential houses were mostly semi-detached, or a penthouse, or flats and it didn't cost cheap price) That was one of the reason why it's not rare to see a lot of people had houses made on the edge of the river. Why so?

It didn't need any certificate for you to build a house near the edge of the village, and it didn't take so much things to pay especially if you live near a water source. Just like humans in old age usually do, live where the water is near.

There were a lot of bad things happened between the governments and the citizens who lived on the edge of the river, or so I heard some mass media said. The citizens who actually don't have the right to even build a shack or anything around that area demanded for actually not rightful payment of their loss and it's not rare that I have seen a lot of families were weeping when their shacks and houses were falling down because the governments were trying to make a safe. It's not that I'm an insensitive bastard and so on, I didn't feel apathetic about this, in fact I'm feeling guilty for not being able to help them. But to put it objectively, it's one of the cause why the river was flooding and it brings a catastrophe for the city.

Other things that had made the situation worse was because of its hectic and rigid spatial layout which made Jakarta couldn't breathe. Everywhere had traffic jams, everywhere you will know countless of transportation were going two ways on the road. Where would the water from the rainwater goes after falling on the ground? You only have concrete and cemented road, there won't be any place to absorb the water, and so it flows. What if it flows? It becomes larger with the other and it became a flood, that is what.

This kind of catastrophe is one of the biggest one ever recorded in my whole life. The last time it flood, it was around 6 years ago, that meant this flood that had met Jakarta was also a periodic flood, but in a more destructive way, since the casualties were higher than years before. There are water pumps to move away a considerable amount of water out from the city, but you know it won't be enough

Recently, Jokowi had started to announce that Jakarta would be in an emergency situation until 27th of January 2013. That was pretty long since you know, the last time the periodic flood started (The five years flood), it took a whole 5 days to make Jakarta operational again. So it would be no wonder if Jokowi announced so. I hope Jakarta would be getting better.
There are a lot of things that I actually want to say in this post, but since I have been a bit tired because of my evacuation from Jakarta to Tangerang, I will have to postpone on continuing this post and I will post a lot of photos about drowning cars and other things. And in the other side of this post, I am ultimately worried about my grandparents well-being since they were still in Jakarta.

Jakarta - The Governor of DKI Jakarta, Joko Widodo (Jokowi) wanted the broken levee in Jl. Latuharhary, Jakarta Pusat to be repaired as soon as possible. He joined in to lift up bags of stones and shards to repair the broken levee.

Two bags of shards and stones were lifted by Jokowi up on the standby lorry that was located on the railway for it to be transported to the edge of the levee, Thursday (17/01/2013). Jokowi and the other staffs were busy to lift up the bags. The citizens around the railways were gathered to watch the repairments of the levee.

The bags are going to be designed so it would close in the edge of the levee.
For a long period of solution, Jokowi had programs such as the plan to normalize the big rivers and sewers in Jakarta, like Kali Pesanggrahan, Kali Angke, and Kali Sunter; dredging the rivers and creating more catchment wells.

However, the programs that were mentioned above haven't been started yet since it hasn't gotten any legitimate certificate for APBD (Region Budgets) 2013 yet.

There are 78 flooding points in DKI Jakarta. With the East Flood Canal, 78 frequently flooded location has been reduced into 16 locations. The rest, 62 locations would be constantly handled. Each year, Jokowi targeted to reduce 8-12 volatile locations.

Jakarta - The one meter flood that had swept the location of Bungur Besar Raya, Kemayoran, Jakarta Pusat had started to recede at 18:00 (06:00 PM). The water level if to be scaled was as high as adult's knee.

From a thorough observation from DetikCom, Thursday (17/01/2013), Even though the location near the previous part of Kemayoran had started to recede, but the electricity in Kemayoran was still turned off. This act of PLN had started 7 hours before the flood had recede.

Late Birthday? Well, I guess that is okay--!

Okay, these guys--pfft, I can't say more about these guys, oh you guys. Why they hell were you ignoring me a week ago? ;A; you broke my heart to pieces since then (till around 04:00 PM GMT). I even ranted THINGS in Twitter so you guys could at least comment, reTweeting like you guys usually do and less ignoring me again--and those are useless and I even acted like I am stupid fool ranted in the late night at Twitter and didn't reply to your mentions because I felt that I would make things awkward. (Much to my dismay, I look like a hopeless, lonely, kiddy. I admitted that! >0) But dude, okay ... I couldn't tell much more about last week and THIS week because I sat in the corner was not comfortable, especially seeing you guys chatting and I couldn't help but to study instead. /ohtragedy /shot/

I even felt like I am just too kiddy for you guys to care anymore. (that, last week).
Or even felt like a stupid dumb that annoyed everybody out with my bitching these weeks. (that, two last weeks, eh ... approximately)

But those ignorance paid off with today. I think I couldn't eat more of these cupcakes you guys made, I am going to be fatter (and taller--I WILL WAIT THAT *evil grin*) but the best present that I got today--you guys didn't leave me, you guys were still real and there for me--and celebrated my birthday, of course. (<- I know the things I said before these words were all too cheesy for your cup of tea. *munched the third cupcake) And those ignorance is just a surprise, stupid me. HOW COULDN'T I REALIZE THIS ASDFGHKLASDGHJLK Even my parents told me that you guys WOULD surprise me but I insisted that you guys didn't care anymore. Oh. Man. Blame. Me. For. This. Naivety. *rage*

But simply put, I love you guys. Fullstop. I think I will spend my time comfortably in bed and cry with a smile planted on my face. ;v;

*huggles #bakagroup*

Oh yeah. Too bad that William couldn't come. I couldn't wait to brag about my heights with him again. *evil crackles*

National Examinations 2012 - Finally DONE!

Hel-lo my dear blog! It has been for a week, hasn't it? I guess my examinations went very fine. Today is the last and I am quite satisfied with my works for my four examinations. They are Indonesian, English, Mathematics and Science. All of them went very well! I hope I could get a total score (nem, we called it) higher than 36.0 Woohoo!

Well, that is it about National examinations. I am enough with it and some incidents around that I wanted to tell you, but I guess I would save that for later.

A HTML Test Page 01

I have some problems at first, then I realized where I made everything wrong. So I hope this helps for my friend, and this is the real testpage that I have done at jsfiddle. The real archive is in here, and I still can't really make the codes for real blog, yet.

The result:

I guess download the html file here

Happy Birthday, Big brother!

I can only wish the best for you.

Could you imagine yourself 15 years later?

SHINee - Sherlock
Firstly, I have to can, and I will be very willingly to make it real. My teacher who is in charged at psychology department in my school have asked us (the students and me, obviously) to listen and write what we could apprehend from hearing a soundtrack that she had prepared for us. Obviously, I have lost interest on the lesson, but the melody was very sweet and that gave me some time to think about my future.

What kind of future that I will get, actually? I promised you, that it is extraordinary for me, but it might not for you people. After all, our future are something special to each of us and none of them are going to be so obviously similar. Psychology speaking, most humans wanted the acknowledgement on the feeling in which their matters (both problems, or even wishes) are the most important, comparing to the other people, so by reading this one, you have to not complain that what I will write in here is not something ridiculous. Pinky swear? Then read more.

23/4 is coming near!

Before 23/4, there is 15/4! Meaning, my big brother is going to have his birthday soon! Hope I can get online at 15 for good gracious' sake ...

Anyway, who could have guessed that my birthday is almost here? Well, rid aside the depressing topic about final examinations. I have had enough of it in my weekend. I have to say that I am quite excited to celebrate my birthday. Means that I have enough with my very worst subject all-around the year, Bahasa Indonesia. Hopefully though, I could use my one week before the pain for practices.

Then again, after the final examinations, I shall do some marathon for this season's anime. I looked forward for Jormugand the best, actually.

Codings.

Long time no post. Well, blog, I know that you have few viewers and etc (in which I don't really care), so ... because I am so kind, I will write a post before I undergone my final examinations. Be grateful! fyi, maria is just kidding around.

So, I have been into coding before because of my friend, Vincent has taught me so many things about web designing. From HTML codes to things to CSS codes. Well, I have always been so grateful for that. So, for the start, I have started to change some codes in this blog (mainly because my perfectionist attitude who wants my homepages got 'tidy' or such ...) and it is actually pretty exciting if you could get the hang of it.

Some time after my examinations, I will edit all of the codes here so it can be better with some hovers and shadowed fonts etc.

Who could have guessed that Tumblr codes can be quite easier than Blogspot codes. IMO, from what I saw. Comparing many base codes and such. You could see the differences quite obviously.

Tiring Week

We all know that being students aren't as easy as being a baby. Yeah, I know that. Well, we all know that. Okay, let me stop this muttering and let's being frank from the start. This whole week is very tiring, and I really mean that.

I'm tired of being mentally drained and physically forced. Mentally drained, because the adults (much to my dismay, my teachers and my parents) are like, pressuring me (as well as other students, ikr) to do the best job for our exams. One thing to note, loves. We students will do our best in this exam even before you have said it; we want to get good scores and graduate, so .. give us some motivational boost, will ya? Please, those words are like our daily bread and it didn't help, swore.

Secondly, I know that study is my job (and the very important one, quoted from my mom) and I am supposed to not rant about national exams and final school exams. Well, daily try-outs helped out (very much) and I am thankful about that, but I don't like the idea of constant try-outs which pretty much abused my energy every day, thinking about the results and predictions, and even grades we, students are going in for the next two weeks. Dude, I don't like that idea at all, and I know this post is so random that I really want to facedesk myself in front of you. :/

Okay, that does it. What makes my stress is in the top is ... That national exam firstly outgoing in my birthday. I repeat, birthday. Which means, 23rd of April is when I do my best for exams as well as to celebrate my birthday till late night, and realizes that tomorrow I still need to study for my exams. In which, dude, it totally a paradox. D: It's not good and it's quite motivate me at the same time.

Oh yeah, April Fool doesn't help, and I am very enthusiast to celebrate my big brother's birthday at 15 April. He is going 25 this year!

Last Exam - Preparation

Thank God that I managed to survive the whole week of midterm tests and practical examinations. Physically I am sick, mentally I am not, I am enthusiastic. I have so much fun in my weekend, really! Watching and updating things .... All of 'em are haven. Although, there will be many things that I will come to afraid next months.

Lemme tell you why.

This month, March, is practically a month for me to prepare things for my final exams for my graduation in April, things should go awry, and I do not want to underestimate things again (as I did weeks ago) and ... I at least, wanted to feel that I can do my best.

April, my month of birthday but at the same time, it is the month where things go serious. I mean, this is going to be my entry pass for a scholarship presented by Singaporean governments next August. I really need to get things past this month, and I do not want to lose my opportunity.

Now, isn't it clear that those three months are my greatest fear right now? They are all related in some sort of extend, and here I am hoping that I could boost myself up and stop watching (or even reading) what I usually love.

I have to say that I am now pretty much maxed to 50% preparation thanks for mental motivation from my cousin (have to say that it is indirectly, but it encourages me and made myself a prouder Indonesian).

Done rantings. Now off to study!

Physics ... Y U SO COMPLICATED. D:

Hello again readers! C: I am actually pretty energetic about writing my daily life in my blog. Surely, it reduces my stress a bit, and I am not going to mock it over or ranting about it anymore, okay? To be honest, I need some things to do before I really burst out and go on emo-ing.

Final Practical Examinations - Day 1: Religion and Physics = Two Subjects Worthy of Annoyance

Well, I want to do some rants about what things that I have been through today. As I said before, it's a hell, but not completely hell, I just feel like it. So don't really take that seriously. The examinations didn't go as well as I thought, rather most of them are chaotic. How to put it in a simpler way? Some are tiring, some are very annoying that is for sure. So the practical examinations that I got today this morning and afternoon are Religion and Physics.

Those two subjects really reminded me of confusing hell of a problem. The examinationers were becoming a bit of savage beasts who would try to find mistakes and point it out to me (well, not  ONLY me) and I was founded dumbfounded. They were literally not savage beasts but somehow I thought them so. They were like metaphorically ... a bit pressured, just like the students. How is that sound? I was pretty sure that my marks for these two subjects weren't going to be very good. Instead, I am pretty positive that it is lower than my thought.

I was a bit jerked up when the examinationer called my name in the laboratory. It was like I was done something wrong when I realized that I didn't. WELL, I thought that I didn't make any mistakes, but any how, the examinationer pointed out a bit forcefully my mistakes, but I swore, I didn't think that it WAS my mistake. He told me that my face could be seen as the face of a person whose worries are pretty extended, well ... HE HAD A POINT. I DID FEEL PRESSURED. D:

I guess that is it. I don't want to give a detail mistakes that I have done in both of the laboratory and the religion room. That is it ... Done with those two, I will have English Written Test tomorrow. C: Wish me luck!

Examinations

I am happy that I have two days to spend for a usual weekend which is not ended up with studying and dating with books. Well .. Not exactly true however, I have some practical examinations to go through before I actually get the chance to do my final national examinations. Here in the first day will have physic examination and religion. Dude, I am not fine with both of them.

I mean, really! The examinations are theoretically easy but doing it in 8 minutes will impose a very great challenge for me. I am not good with those tools, I am only good with my computer and phone ... you know, typical of modern teenagers of sort. shotme

Okay, as in what I have been saying in two previous paragraphs, next week won't be an easy week for me. But I am enthusiastic with my English written test at Tuesday. Horror topics are widely spread in the worksheet, do hope I can make good essays for the judges!

Failure is a step to move on.

It has been a while since I have started writing the posts in my blog. I have to say that my schedule is pretty tight around January 2012 till May 2012, and I will say that I really hope to have some fun here instead than doing some practical examinations and written final examinations, just saying. Now don't we all do?

Well, all I want to say that I really want to express my feeling ever since I have doing some practices for my scholarship test to CHIJ, which resulted failed few weeks ago. An iron woman I am, I was crying in the toilet and asked, "Why didn't this happen to the others?" That is pretty much a stupid question to begin with, but really! Isn't that one sort of human's nature who thinks that everything is unfair? Then I recovered from my pathetic crying because of my father. He gave me some mental insurance that proved worthy of my attention and making me to look forward for April (Which is a pretty big month because it is presented both my birthday and my final national examination day).

I guess this short post is done. I am done ranting!

25 December of the 2011.

Good day, my friends. So how's Christmas is for you? In Indonesia, we had already celebrated Christmas nine hours ago. But still, I bid a you a very nice Christmas. Don't be a loner like me, I guarantee you that it'll slice your heart to pieces.

You won't know what happen today in 2011.

Apparently, I don't feel any joy comes from Christmas even though I am one of the believers. Do take a heed on this one, friends. I am believer but I don't feel joy.

Every year, I probably celebrate Christmas with my family, going out for dinner or playing at the some places. But that change whole. I am now since 4 years ago, alone at home; or rather, with a computer and internet. That's for sure. I envy my friends who still had the chances to go to the church to their heart's content and surely I envy them for not being me.

I don't really feel empty back then, but I don't know why; it feels different today. As if that back years aren't exist to make me realize that this is not normal. Alone at home and playing computer while celebrating something important? That is, normal for me. Or normal for some of you guys, no?

Every time I think about Christmas these days ... I feel that those who come to praise God and saying they are in joy for His arrival in the world ... are some hypocrites. What about their ramblings on how sad they are for their problems? Does that mean they are feeling joy for His arrival? I don't understand myself but ... I can't feel this, intriguing feeling every time they ask me to go to the church so we--they and I can celebrate Christmas together.

It's as if they are forcing themselves to invite us to join them.

I probably should tell you more about my experience with some Christians. But that will take some more time to write. It'll be a hella alot of words in the post.

So I rather save it for next time.

... Okay then, Merry Christmas to you all!

A Delicacy, A Kiss, An Appreciation for a Mother's Day.

What is the real meaning of a Mother's Day?

For me, it means you will always need to remember on how to respect your mother, and understand her life's burden because you are there for her. You'll never understand a mother's pain before you become one, exceptions for boys ... You'll never know, unless she tells how big her love for you. That is.

Even though she is not perfect, and even though you thought that she is less better than some mothers you know ... There will be time when you realize that all of it is purely nonsense; you'll come to understand that for your heart, that your mother will always become your number one.

I'm not bragging about it for I had realized how good and powerful my mother is. No--not powerful physically, but powerful on insisting how smart and beautiful I am, although I am not, and I'll probably never be.

But I'm not satisfied just yet because I had came to realize how big my mother's love for me. Now all that I can do is to study harder, better, and even more diligent, become a big successful businesswoman and make my family happy.

I'm sure that my mother will someday proud to me everyday.

It's my revelation to my mother. How about yours? Give her a delicate dinner, a delicacy for a woman; a kiss on cheek and expressed your appreciation to her.

It'll make your mother cries, it'll make your eyes redden. Cross my heart if I lie.
